ABSTRACT
Size and ecology Seed size is a compromise between the germination benefits of large nutrient- or carbon-rich seeds and the number and greater dispersal of small seeds. Large seeds are associated with plants of low light conditions in all habitats and size increases towards the equator. Some species produce seeds of constant weight but in others it varies considerably. Some plants produce more than one type of seed which differ in dispersal and dormancy characteristics.
