Vegetative structure of Lycopsida There are three groups of living clubmosses and quillworts, comprising 1000 herbaceous species distributed worldwide. Clubmosses are terrestrial or epiphytic, and the quillworts aquatic. The clubmosses have branched stems with microphyll leaves, roots and, in Selaginella, rhizophores; the quillworts have a basal corm and long microphylls.
