General features of plant evolution

Adaptive radiation Plants have not evolved in synchrony with animals. There have been no mass extinctions but the four major plant radiations have occurred in periods of continental upheaval and elevated CO₂ levels. Angiosperms are well adapted to the current low CO₂ levels.
