ABSTRACT
The concluding PDE example is based on a physical system comprising a section of steel with a layer of external insulation, as depicted in Figure 5.1. The external surface of the insulation is heated by radiation from a flame, and the basic question to be answered then is how the temperature of the steel changes with time due to the radiative heating (the insulation is designed to prevent rapid heating of the steel).
