ABSTRACT

Manmade chemicals are released into the environment from a number of sources including chemical manufacture, industrial and agricultural use, and disposal following domestic application. In order to restrict the deleterious effects of chemicals to the environment, information is required regarding their toxicity and fate. Toxicity data provide an indication of the hazard associated with exposure to a xenobiotic; knowledge of fate will assist in establishing the hazard associated with a compound by a comprehension of its persistence.
