ABSTRACT

The safety hazards related to processing and handling of production quantities of metal or metallic powders have been the subject of extensive study and concern for many years. Injury to personnel and production facilities due to fire and/or explosion are often reported and could be catastrophic. Frequently, research personnel assume that such major accidents occur only in production facilities and not in laboratories. This is not right. Many accidents have been reported in situations where only gram quantities of powders are involved. Weber et al. [1] have summarized some of the safety hazards associated with milling of metal powders in laboratories and production facilities.
