ABSTRACT

Prilling as a process is defined and discussed in Sec. 5.2. The generation of droplets is treated in Sec. 5.3. The next four sections contain the elements for a design method. First, the terminal velocity of a falling sphere is dealt with in Sec. 5.4. Second, the heat transfer from a falling sphere is the subject of Sec. 5.5. The solidification of a sphere is considered in Sec. 5.6. The solidification process occurs as a result of instationary heat transfer from the sphere to the air. The next section covers the cooling of the crystallized (solidified) material. The design method is reviewed in Sec. 5.8. Sec. 5.9 contains the verification of the recommended design method. A design example is discussed in the last section.
