Evolution of Sedimentary Basins and Petroleum Highlighted by the Facies of the Host Rocks and Coal

So far we have applied the characteristics of formation waters to understand the history, compartment structure, and hydrology of sedimentary basins-topics that have direct bearing also on the understanding of petroleum systems. In the present chapter let us have a glimpse at the more traditional tool of petroleum research and exploration, namely, the composition and facies of the rocks that fill the basins.
