ABSTRACT
Phosphoric acid is referred to as being tribasic, in that it has three possible dissociation steps (Section N3). As a result, mono-and disodium and/or potassium salts of phosphoric acid (Section N1) are routinely used as pH buffers for in vitro biochemical studies and indeed play an important part in the buffering of biological processes in vivo.
