Electronic transitions In ultraviolet/visible (UV/vis) spectroscopy, the transitions that result in the absorption of electromagnetic radiation are electronic transitions. An electron is promoted from the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) to the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) (Section B2).
