ABSTRACT

There are numerous things for pilots to learn about the care of the airplane in various temperature extremes. There are the engine preheating before start during cold weather, the removal of frost, snow, and ice before flight, and the efforts to keep the cabin cool enough to lessen potential harm to the expensive avionics in the airplane. In warm weather, great care is taken to prevent excessive oil and cylinder head temperatures. However, a very delicate part of the system (the human component) is often left to its own means when it comes to dealing with the effects of temperature extremes.
