ABSTRACT

This chapter provides general design guidance for information presentation, media selection, the use of color, icons, accessibility and internationalization. It discusses the guidelines, based on research and best practice that can be directly applied to product design. The chapter also provides a general description of the physical, information processing capabilities, and the perceptual characteristics of users. It focuses on information presentation describes categories of information presentation, task/information use dependencies, steps for determining information requirements and data forms. The chapter also focuses on layout and structuring, display factors such as density, complexity and information arrangement are discussed. It describes media selection includes guidelines on both the use of individual media and the combination of media. The selection of media is an important decision and should be based on the information to be presented. Media selection is a major means for determining how the performance support will be presented to the user.
