ABSTRACT

This chapter provides detailed development procedures and guidance for the development of the various performance support products. The requirements for documentation should be developed in conjunction with the requirements for other performance support products early in the design. Performance aids are intended to support a specific task by providing information or knowledge that would otherwise need to be memorized or learned by means of training. The need for performance aids will normally be identified during the analysis of skill and knowledge requirements. The environmental requirements of the performance aid pertain to the characteristics of the work environment that will affect the aid’s design. The design document specifies the overall physical requirements for each performance aid and defines the specific design of each of the included display units. Coaches and advisors can provide additional functionality to a help system or can be provided as separate performance support features of an application.
