This chapter takes up approaches and methods for describing and analysing safety characteristics of a system. Most methods for safety analysis are oriented towards identification of failures and problems, and how these can be corrected. There are some negative aspects to this, for example:
• The correction procedure takes time. • Changes to hardware and procedures may be expensive. • It might be difficult to judge the final result, especially if a number of safety
measures are added one by one.
