ABSTRACT

Description: Avonex is a recombinant human interferon beta-1a (IFNβ-1a) of identical amino acid sequence to the native human molecule. The 166-amino acid, 22.5-kDa, single-chain glycoprotein is produced by recombinant DNA technology in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells. It is presented as a lyophilized powder (a single-dose vial contains 30 µg interferon, equivalent to 6 million IU activity), which is resuspended using the solvent provided with a prefilled syringe. Avonex is administered intramuscularly.
