FILE ACCESS BASICS book
This taster commences with a description of a rudimentary UNIX file system and subsequent refinements, including the appearance of NTFS. It moves on to network file systems such as NFS and CIFS and subsequent attempts to improve their performance. Finally, it covers the use of both LAN-based and direct connection to improve file system throughput and performance. Multiserver-controlled file systems (typically called cluster or even SAN file systems) and database management systems that can support a database that spans multiple server nodes are covered in Chapter 23.
