ABSTRACT

The concept underpinning straight through processing (STP) has been embedded in many applications linking business partners. Historical reference suggests that a more generalized interest in implementing STP started around 1997. The Swift organization says it invented the term in connection with front-desk/back-office integration; however, there is no clear evidence of this, though it might be possible. The “STP Newsletter,” which was issued that same year, helped in popularizing the term.
