ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will consider two large-scale experiments that, although proposed for different reasons, had similar experimental designs. In the first example retail stores had wanted to reduce their injury costs through the introduction of a physiotherapy service and compared two groups of stores within the same enterprise; in the second example an employers’ engineering organisation wished to see if there were benefits to be gained from a multi-skilling style of manufacture compared with a Taylorist style and made the comparison between two enterprises.
