ABSTRACT
The choice of whether to give a premedicant drug is a personal one and it is frequently best omitted. Many psychotropic drugs have unpredictable effects and both hyoscine and atropine can cause unwanted tachyarrhythmias. The effect of premedication on the dose of thiopentone (thiopental) required to induce anaesthesia is shown in Figure 43.1.
