ABSTRACT

Statics deals with problems in equilibrium statistical physics and thermodynamics, i.e., problems without time dependence. This was the type of problem discussed in Ch. 1 in our exposition of the RG technique. In the present chapter we expand upon the material of Ch. 1 and describe the techniques for practical calculations using specific examples. The justification of the quantum field models that we use and comparison of our results to experiment lie outside the scope of this book; instead, we refer the reader to the corresponding specialized literature.
