ABSTRACT

The Australian SDI (ASDI) provides an interesting case study of a National SDI initiative, operating in the context of both international and local initiatives. Australia has three levels of government: national (termed Commonwealth), state/ territory (eight) and local (727), and a vigorous private sector spatial industry. Each level of government has distinct public spatial responsibilities, while the private sector provides services to both the government and commercial sectors. Australia is also an active participant in Regional and Global SDIs through the Asia-Pacific and GSDI initiatives.
