ABSTRACT

The overall objective of Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) is to facilitate sharing of data that describes the position, distribution and attributes of objects in space. Data quality is of particular concern to both data providers and data users as it affects the utility and market value of the data. There are numerous aspects to data quality including completeness, logical consistency, positional accuracy, temporal accuracy and thematic accuracy. This chapter focuses on some of the broader issues concerning positional accuracy of spatial data in the context of SDI.
