ABSTRACT

Tangeretin is a flavone derivative (5,6,7,8,4

-pentamethoxyflavone) present in citrus-fruit peel. Pan and coworkers (2002) showed that it induces cell-cycle G

arrest in colorectal carcinoma COLO 205 cells. Exposure of cells to tangeretin resulted in inhibition

of cyclin-dependent kinases 2 and 4 in a dosedependent manner. Tangeretin also increased the level of Cdk inhibitor p21 and p27 protein. These studies showed that the growth inhibition was mediated by inhibiting the activities of cyclin-dependent kinases 2 and 4.
