ABSTRACT

Complex machines, henceforth referred to as ‘systems’, are made of smaller devices, called components. The life span of the whole system depends on the life span of the individual components which are often independent of each other. Depending on the nature of the system (i.e., how the components are connected with each other), the system works if some or all of the components work. On the other hand, the system fails as soon as some or all of the components fail. In this chapter we shall deal mainly with reliability of two types of systems — Series System and Parallel System.
