ABSTRACT
Drug delivery systems are not a new subject in the pharmaceutical area, mainly due to the high interest by the pharmaceutical companies in ways to improve patient compliance concerning drug taking.
The first drug delivery system was created back in the 1940s, in order to raise drug levels in blood. In the 1970s, these systems were being developed in a commercial way, but they were very rudimentary.
