ABSTRACT

A great number of other organisms might also have a potential role in bioterrorism. Among these are the foodborne bacteria shigella, salmonella, brucella,

E. coli

, and cholera, as well as a variety of other pathogens such as

Chlamydia psittaci

,

the agent of psittacosis. In addition, substances obtained from biological sources, such as ricin toxin, an extract of castor beans, are considered potential biological weapons (see Box 9.1, Box 9.2, Box 9.3, and Box 9.4).
