ABSTRACT
The best-known species in this genus is the one Linnaeus described in Systerna Naturae in 1759, Genipa americana. However, Jacquin named this Caribbean species in 1796, and it was moved to Genipa in 1861. There are only seven species in the genus, all of them tropical American (Mabberley 1997).
