ABSTRACT
In the classical theory of shallow water, long waves, the vertical acceleration of the fluid particles is neglected because these accelerations are very small with respect to the acceleration of the gravity field. Also, the velocities of the water particles in the z direction may be neglected in dealing with long waves. Thus, all terms containing Uz in equations 1.5 are omitted.
