ABSTRACT

In this paper, the idea o f two separate processes occurring in bone is discussed: a remodelling in endosteal and trabecular areas, which causes bone loss, and a parallel process involving periosteal bone growth. The fact that bone size is altered during ageing is, of course, of central importance. It will strongly affect bone strength and is not readily measured by conventional BM D measurements. Further knowledge of this process and how it is regulated will probably be the focus of much future research.
