ABSTRACT

The costs of deploying wireless LANs (WLANs) are low and continue to drop; however, the costs of creating and managing value-added mobile WLAN application services remain considerably higher, compared with other communication networks. The creation and management of mobile application services for WLANs may require much more expertise than for other networks because they may be functionally much more complex. Such services may not only be owned and managed by many different types of organizations, but they may also have to be adapted to many types of users, terminals, communication networks, and application services.
