ABSTRACT

Doctors are trained to focus on the major problems or chief complaints that patients present. A chief complaint is the main reason a patient visits a doctor, and the patient wants the complaint investigated and cured. Shortness of breath and chest pains are common chief complaints. To investigate a complaint, a physician takes the patient’s medical history, performs a physical exam, orders tests, and arrives at a Þnal diagnosis. At this point, the chief complaint can be treated and solved.
