Photochemical [2+2]-cycloaddition of alkenes with carbonyls, the so-called Paternò-Büchi reaction, is one of the important photochemical processes to give oxetanes (Scheme 1); Paternò and Chieffi first reported the oxetane formation in 1909, almost 100 years ago.
