ABSTRACT
The development costs for a system with specification traceability are front loaded. That is, the development organization must commit far more resources in the initial stages of the software development process than it is currently accustomed to doing. There are, however, astonishing benefits that will flow from this disciplined approach to specification and design. Of primary interest is the ability of the concept of specification traceability to solve some major problems in the arena of software availability.
