ABSTRACT

This chapter continues the presentation of local sensitivity analysis of system responses around a chosen point or trajectory in the combined phase space of parameters and state variables. In contradistinction to the problems considered in Chapter IV, though, the operators considered in this chapter act nonlinearly not only on the system's parameters but also on the dependent variables, and include linear and/or nonlinear feedback. Consequently, it will no longer be possible to solve the adjoint equations underlying the ASAP independently of the original (forward) nonlinear equations. This is the fundamental difference to the problems considered previously in Chapter IV.
