ABSTRACT
The value of wireless sensor networks rests on their low cost and distribution in large numbers. To achieve the economies of scale needed to reach a large market at low cost, certain features of wireless sensor networks need to be standardized, so that products from many manufacturers may interoperate. This synergy will add utility to wireless sensor networks, and therefore encourage their use.
