ABSTRACT

Cancer is the most dreaded of all diseases in terms of the great devastation it causes in the life of patients and family. The American Cancer Society estimates that about 1,284,900 new cases of cancer were diagnosed in the U.S. in the year 2002, and about 555,500 Americans are expected to die of the disease; that is, more than 1500 people a day. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the U.S., exceeded only by heart diseases. In the U.S., men have a little less than a one

in two lifetime risk of developing cancer. For women, the risk is a little more than one in three.
