ABSTRACT

Recent larger-scale studies As outlined above, studies to date of patients treated for diverse types of cancer have not

identified an increase in the frequency of congenital abnormalities, genetic disease or cancer in the offspring. However, all prior studies included too few children born to women or men treated for cancer to have sufficient statistical power to rule out an effect of cancer treatment on subsequent pregnancy outcome. It is estimated that many thousands of patients will be needed to rule out a relative risk for germ cell mutation in the range of 1.5. The results of more recent large-scale studies have been reported over the past few years or are in progress in a number of countries including the USA, the UK and Canada.
