ABSTRACT

Tailoring dietary counseling to each patient’s situation is the key to longterm lifestyle change. The concept of change depends on how closely new behaviors match old habits. Without knowledge of baseline behaviors, we have no map with which to chart the course of lifestyle change. The concept of one size fitting all is a formula for disaster in dietary counseling. Tailoring can apply to a variety of counseling formats and can be used in individual counseling and in group settings.
