ABSTRACT

Although a lot of feature films have been produced in the last century, little empirical research has been done on the viewer impression of the bodily movements of the characters. Questions concerning the emotional, aesthetic, narrative or generic impact of actor movements in film have only appeared at the sideline of studies from very diverse research areas such a s perception research, ethnology, communication studies, psychology, theatre and film theory. This research will try to bring these theories together as it aims to identify which parameters of bodily movements in a filmic scene are responsible for what cognitive and aesthetic viewer impressions. It is supposed that once these parameters have been identified, a specific configuration of them will result in a predictable viewer impression.
