12.a.1. Bailey, R. R., The effect of maternal smoking on the infant birth weight, N. Z. Med. J., 71, 293—294, 1970. Study of 1300 pregnant women in New Zealand where 39% smoked during pregnancy, 13% smoked 10 to 20 cigarettes a day, and 5% smoked more than 20 cigarettes a day. Infants born to smokers weighed less than those born to nonsmokers. Gestation length was not affected by smoking. The incidence of congenital anomalies was not increased by maternal smoking.
