ABSTRACT

17.f.1. Alexander, J. C., Silverman, N. A., and Chretien, P. B., Effect of age and cigarette smoking on carcinoembryonic antigen levels, JAMA, 235, 1975—1979, 1976. Serum carcinoembryonic antigen levels were significantly higher in smokers than in nonsmokers (2.7 vs 1.9 ng/mℓ, respectively). Smokers also had a higher percentage of elevated serum carcinoembryonic antigen. By about 3 months after abstention from smoking, elevated levels decreased to range of nonsmokers.
