ABSTRACT

This chapter and the next chapter, on aspects of crude simulation, do not have to be read sequentially; the modeling is described first to emphasize the points about adequate modeling made previously. One reading strategy might be to read one or two of the examples and then go to Chapter 4. However, the examples in the present chapter should eventually be read because they also serve to introduce notation and basic ideas for the rest of the book. Thus, several distribution function models are presented, as well as the distribution for minima and the idea of order statistics. Details on some of the distribution function models introduced here are given in Chapter 6 (Tables 6.1.2 and 6.1.3).
