ABSTRACT
The use of animal models in biomedical and environmental health research has become progressively more widespread over the past several decades. The continual development of new drugs as well as chemical products in the United States along with their potential for causing adverse human health effects have led to the need for preclinical and premarket testing on animal models in the hope of accurately predicting potential human responses. Considerable federal legislation now exists that requires drug and chemical manufacturers to perform various animal toxicological studies to support their applications for product approval.
