ABSTRACT

In addition to conversion of migrants in single mixphases of the multiphase system subsurface, attention must be given to exchange of migrants between mixphases. Transphase exchange processes (often termed heterogeneous reactions by chemists) and external exchange processes (the exchange with the environment) are of particular importance for the migrants’ fate in the subsurface. This chapter discusses the dynamics of these processes (§1.5.1), the exchange processes in the literal sense (§1.5.2), dissolution and precipitation processes (§1.5.3), and biological processes (§1.5.4).
