ABSTRACT

Chapter 12 covers Census data resources from around the world. Readers of this book are most certainly not limited to the United States in their projects, and will be interested in how to apply the methods presented to examples around the world. International Census & demographic data is the focus of this chapter. The first section focuses on global demographic indicators for between-country comparisons and gives an overview of the idbr R package for accessing these indicators through the US Census Bureau’s International Data Base. The sections that follow cover country-specific packages from around the world that deliver Census data to R users in similar ways to the US-focused packages covered earlier in this book. Examples from Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and Kenya illustrate how to apply the methods readers have learned in this book to Census data analyses in other parts of the world.
