ABSTRACT

Early one morning in the hospital I woke up, feeling drugged, with a huge something in my mouth and down my throat. At least it felt enormous. And it was quite uncomfortable. A wide tube ran from the “thing” to a large, very noisy machine on a table beside my bed. In my grogginess, I also realized that I was in a different room and that I was hooked to an IV which was dripping a clear liquid into me.
