ABSTRACT

Dinoseb is expected to biodegrade slowly in soil. Dinoseb is a contact herbicide used as the ammonium or amine salt for post-emergence weed control in cereals, undersown cereals, seedling lucerne and peas. Release of dinoseb will result primarily from its use as a herbicide on a variety of weeds. Release of dinoseb to soil is expected to result in biodegradation and dinoseb will only weakly adsorb to soils and should, therefore, leach to ground water. Oil solutions of dinoseb are used for pre-emergence control of annual weeds in beans, peas and potatoes, for pre-harvest desiccation of hops, leguminous seed crops, potatoes and for control of runners and suckers in strawberries and raspberries. Some loss of dinoseb may occur from moist soil surface by codistillation especially at high temperature and acidic soil conditions. In 1985, dinoseb was found only once in ditch sediments.
