ABSTRACT
The question might arise, whether it is appropriate to discuss the use of GIS for communicable disease control separately. There are, however, some features unique to communicable diseases (Figure 5.1) (Giesecke, 2001). One of the major objectives of this chapter is to demonstrate that these aspects provide good reasons for the application of GIS in the control of communicable diseases.
