ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a suitable set of orthogonal functions for the analysis of open loop as well as closed loop control systems with sample-and-hold (S/H). Using sample-and-hold functions, one Sample-and-Hold Operational Transfer Function (SHOTF) has been derived to overcome the limitations of BPOTFs when analyzing systems with S/H. The results obtained using BPOTF and SHOTF approaches are compared with conventional z-transform analysis. It has been noted that one-shot SHOTF based analyzes produce exact results when compared with conventional z-transform analyzes. The approximation errors for BPF and SHF have been discussed and compared. Different types of numerical examples are treated with supporting tables. At the end of this chapter, six study problems are included for the benefit of the readers.
