ABSTRACT

Standards and regulations are an integral part of industrial textiles. Due to their nature, industrial textiles may need to be regulated more than traditional consumer textiles. ISO 9000 standards have gained considerable attention in the textile industry, again more in industrial textiles than traditional textiles. This chapter includes some national and international bodies for regulations, safety and standards. The ISO 9000 series is a set of international standards for quality assurance and management. There are five standards in the set: ISO 9000, ISO 9001, ISO 9002, ISO 9003 and ISO 9004. These standards are generic and adaptable to quality systems already in place. ISO registration is required in order to do business with the European Community. Each registrar is accredited by a national accreditation body. The following organizations can provide copies, information and/or assistance on revised/draft/current/new standards, guides, catalogs, indices, publications and related documents: American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, and American National Standards Institute.
